Mr. Ngo Khac Ly, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Logistics Business Association, stated that if the logistics industry does not swiftly undergo a green transformation, companies will face the risk of being eliminated from the market, which could severely impact both domestic and global trade, as well as import and export activities.

Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, emphasized that green logistics is not just a trend but a mandatory requirement for the future. However, in the process of implementation, companies will face numerous obstacles in terms of awareness and motivation for transformation. On the other hand, some companies, despite recognizing this necessity, are small in scale with limited financial resources, making it difficult for them to invest adequately.

In the context of green transformation becoming both a development trend and a mandatory requirement for companies, Mr. Ngo Khac Ly believes that businesses need to change their mindset, enhance awareness, and maintain close cooperation with the government and regulatory agencies, especially in developing specific tax policies. Additionally, companies should fully utilize and effectively develop inland waterways and coastal routes, which can increase the volume of goods transported while reducing emissions from transportation vehicles. On the other hand, companies should vigorously promote innovation, digital transformation, and actively engage in green logistics and smart logistics to provide efficient services for import and export goods.

It is noteworthy that Vietnamese companies face intense competition from several emerging markets and need to pay close attention to this issue. For example, the textile and footwear industries have lost many orders because companies in Bangladesh and some European countries have adopted green production technologies, requiring waste reduction and ensuring a high-quality environment.

Mr. Tran Thanh Hai highlighted Vietnam’s Green Action Plan for 2030 and suggested that companies should improve relevant standards and regulations to reduce transportation emissions and develop green logistics. On the other hand, promoting the shift of transportation and warehousing towards the use of clean and environmentally friendly energy is crucial.

At the same time, fuel quality management solutions and emission standards systems should be improved and synchronized; initiatives dedicated to enhancing connectivity and multimodal transportation infrastructure should be deployed. Additionally, companies should optimize transportation and warehousing activities to reduce unnecessary traffic; promote digital governance in transportation, and build logistics databases, thereby fostering the sustainable development of the logistics industry.
