Southeast Asia, located in the southern and eastern parts of Asia, is a region of rich diversity, comprising eleven countries. These countries include Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Timor – Leste, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Each of these countries and regions has its own characteristics in terms of economy, culture, and politics. For exporters, understanding these characteristics and the relevant export certification requirements is of utmost importance.
Goods exported to Southeast Asia need to meet a series of certification requirements, which may vary depending on the country and the type of product. The following are some common certification requirements:
1、Indonesia’s SNI and SDPPI Certifications
In June 1996, the Secretary – General of the Indonesian Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the SNI Mark Product Certification Procedure in the Gazette to ensure that products meet the requirements of the established Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The SNI Mark Certification adopts the fifth certification model (Type Testing + Factory Quality Assurance Capability Review) and is implemented by certification bodies authorized by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
2、Singapore’s PSB and IMDA Certifications
The PSB certification is a mandatory safety certification in Singapore. The PSB safety mark certificate is issued by the Singapore Product Standards Bureau. Singapore requires that regulated electrical products must be mandatorily applied for PSB certification. Before a product enters Singapore, a company or firm with a tax registration in Singapore must be the certificate – holder for applying for PSB. Only after obtaining the PSB certification can the product enter the Singaporean market for sale.
3、Thailand’s TISI and NBTC Certifications
TISI is the abbreviation of Thailand Industrial Standards Institute, Ministry Of Industry. It is an industrial standards association established by the Thai Ministry of Industry in 1969. All consumer goods, electronic and electrical products, household appliances, etc. imported for sale in Thailand need to meet the TISI certification requirements before they can be exported and sold. There are two types of certifications: mandatory and voluntary.
